Water Systems

Water is conveyed in a buried pressurized pipe system. Much of the existing infrastructure currently in service was installed years ago. Over time pipe joint wear, embedment failure and earth movement have caused existing pipe to deteriorate and require replacement.

The design engineer is responsible for ensuring that a water system not only provides clean and drinkable water but adequate volume and pressure to the community being serviced. Water system design includes many variables such as site elevation, existing load on the current system, location of above ground storage facilities, and the location and capacity of the pumping stations.

Another key consideration in water system design is population growth. Municipalities often forecast population growth and predict areas where current infrastructure will need upsizing. As a design engineer we create models to facilitate proper pipe sizing and placement of new pipelines, storage facilities and treatment plants.
